Special celebration for Elizabeth's 100th birthday

Family and friends gathered to wish a happy 100th birthday to Mrs Elizabeth Jack, who was born when King George V was on the throne.

Margaret Stewart DL, Provost Karen Murray Conaghan and Elizabeth Jack.

The special celebration was held in her family home in the Mountblow area of Clydebank, where she was joined by her son and daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Dignitaries also joined the celebrations, among them Provost of West Dunbartonshire, Karen Murray Conaghan and Margaret Stewart DL, who read a congratulatory message from King Charles.

Elizabeth was the youngest of eight children and left school when she was 14 to take up a position with the Co-operative Insurance. She continued working there after the Clydebank Blitz, travelling every day from Stonehouse in Lanarkshire where she had been evacuated to, their home having been destroyed during the bombing.

The Family made life long friends there with the people who took them in to live with them. An opportunity then presented itself to become a Telephone Operator in the Telephone exchange. After training for six weeks she then started work in one of the local telephone exchanges and continued to work there until she got married in 1946.

Elizabeth led an active life focussed on her family and her local Church and attended the Women's Guild and enjoying social nights and day trips with them.

She was also famed for her baking skills, namely making Shortbread, Empire Biscuits and Tablet. The Tablet and Empire Biscuits being particular favourites among her nieces and nephews and their children, who have all kept in touch with her and come to visit her.
