Elizabeth Cross awarded to Bearsden family 70 years on

Decades after he gave his life for his country, Leading Seaman William Moir's family have received a decoration in his honour at a special ceremony in Kirkintilloch.

William was killed while serving with the Royal Navy aboard HMS Consort in the Yangste River, while fighting communist insurgents in 1949. He was 28.

His daughter Kathleen Pollock, who was aged just three when he was killed, said: 'We have always kept his memory alive and we are very proud of his service.

The Elizabeth Cross is awarded to next of kin of service personnel killed in action.

The ceremony was attended by Dr Gill Aitkenhead MBE, Deputy Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire.
