Vale of Leven FC marks 150 years

Players, coaches, former staff and local dignitaries kicked off a major event to mark 150 years of Vale of Leven FC at the library in Alexandria.

Deputy Lieutenant Tom Finnigan MBE was among the dignitaries at the civic reception and he is pictured with West Dunbartonshire Provost Douglas McAllister (left) and club President Fergus McLellan (right) with a plaque to mark the occasion.

The event also saw local councillors Jim Bollan and Michelle McGinty, former managers Hugh Hamill, James Brown, John Filshie, Evan Williams and Jimmy Johnstone in attendance.

Formed in 1872 the club is considered one of the pioneers of Scottish football, winning the Scottish Cup in 1877, 1878 and 1879, being runners-up in 1883, 1884, 1885 and 1890 and being one of the founding members of the Scottish Football League in 1890.

The plaque will be situated in the library before being moved to the club's ground at Millburn Park.
