Helensburgh's Isa marks 100 years

One of Helensburgh's best known figures has marked her 100th birthday in style.

She was guest of honour at a party in the town, where she received a goodwill message from King Charles, read by Gill Aitkenhead DL.

Isabella Mackinnon, known to all as Isa, was born in Airdrie on 26 October 1924 and moved to Helensburgh, from Cardross, ninety five years ago.

After leaving school at sixteen she worked in many well known companies including the Central Hotel in Glasgow and Gleneagles.

Having been given a Singer treadle sewing machine by her parents she became an upholsterer at Kerrs of Helensburgh and has made thousands of curtains and loose covers for homes in the town over the years.

She has run the Lunch Club for Senior Citizens, the Coffee Club and she loved to organise bus trips.

She is a popular and founder member of Grey Matters and is well known in town pushing her famous walker around the streets which now sports the number plate ISA 100.
