Lord-Lieutenant attends Army Colour Parade

Dunbartonshire's Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Jill Young MBE, was a guest at the parade to present the Second Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, with its new colour commemorating the battle of Assaye in 1803.

The parade took place at Glencorse Barracks in Midlothian on Saturday June 18th.

The new Colour, a specially designed flag carrying battle honours, was paraded before the battalion and blessed by the Padre on what is widely regarded as the most important day for the regiment since it formed in 2006.

The battle, near the village of Assaye in western India, was part of the second Anglo Maratha war and British troops, led by Arthur Wellesley, who would become the Duke of Wellington, defeated a much larger force.

It was Wellington's first victory, one he would later describe as greater than his defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo.

Mrs Young was guest of Major Mike Edwards OBE DL, a serving reserve officer with the regiment.
