Dunbartonshire DL wins reservist award.

Deputy Lieutenant, Major Mike Edwards, has been named reservist of the year at a ceremony in Edinburgh. The 57 year-old author and retired journalist has served in the Royal Regiment of Scotland for nearly 30 years and was mobilised for operational tours of duty in Iraq & Afghanistan. Mike was the face of the news in STV every night for more than 25 years. As well as his service as an Army Reservist, Mike is a trustee of the Erskine veterans charity, the Royal Highland Fusiliers Trust and the Highlanders Museum at Fort George. He is a caseworker in Dunbartonshire with the Armed Forces charity, SSAFA and sits on the board of the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat. He lives near Helensburgh and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant in 2021. He was presented with his trophy at the annual Scottish Veterans Awards. He said, ‘Yes I received the award, yes my name is on the trophy and yes I have accepted all the congratulations. But the award is as much for the military charities I am proud to serve as it is for me. It is a privilege to be able to do all this while still serving as an Army Reservist, a role I have been fortunate enough to fulfil for nearly 30 years. I am truly humbled.’
