More than 100 friends and fellow Royal British Legion members wished Cumbernauld man George Johnston a happy 100th birthday at an event in the town.
George served in the Royal Air Force in WW2 and has been an RBL member for more than 50 years.
His Majesty the King’s birthday greeting was presented by Mrs Anne Walker DL and the good wishes of the provost and members of North Lanarkshire Council were extended on their behalf by Deputy Provost Bob Burgess.

George was treated to a “This is your Life” style slide show and a selection of video greetings from a number of famous faces from his favourite football team, Glasgow Rangers.

George was presented with a framed certificate acknowledging his lengthy RBL membership as well as a victory coin marking his wartime military service.

The event was organised by the RBL seniors club.
