Bishopbriggs couple mark 70th wedding anniversary

Family, friends and neighbours gathered at the home of Giuseppe (Joe) and Elvira Togneri in Bishopbriggs for a very special celebration on 31^st March - their 70^th wedding anniversary.

Just after WWII Elvira came from Cassino in Italy to Scotland to work as a nanny for the Togneri family.  A teenager, she spoke no English but very quickly learned.

She caught the eye of young Guiseppe Togneri and they were married in 1954.

They had three children and ran a successful fish and chip business in Glasgow – the famous OK Café next to the Roxy Cinema on Maryhill Rd.

Anne Walker DL delivered a card bearing a greeting from King Charles and Queen Camilla, while Provost Gillian Renwick presented the couple with a floral arrangement and a framed copy of their marriage certificate.
