Dunbartonshire DL welcomes Rotary dignitary.

Gerry McElroy MBE DL, welcomed Jennifer Jones from Canada, the President Elect of Rotary International, to Cumbernauld where she was asked to plant a Rowan tree in Rotary’s Peace Garden.

Jennifer Jones is a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland Ontario and has been nominated to become Rotary International’s president for 2022/23, the first woman to hold that office.

She has been a member of Rotary since 1997 and held many important positions making significant contributions to Rotary.

On the day Jennifer visited Cumbernauld she also visited the Scottish Parliament.

The Cumbernauld Community Memorial Peace Garden is a project led by the Cumbernauld Environmental Society which reclaimed land in the Greenfaulds area of the town and created a beautiful oasis of calm with gardens, footpaths and seating. It is maintained by volunteers including Rotary Cumbernauld.

In his welcome address, Mr McElroy told her that she followed in a long line of VIP visits to the town and that she enhanced that list, highlighted the work and reputation of local Rotary and assured her that they were a very community facing organisation. He congratulated her and wished her good luck for her term of office.
