Lord-Lieutenant receives MBE.

Mrs Jill Young MBE, the Lord-Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire, was invested with her honour by The Princess Royal in a ceremony at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on January 19th. The award was made in the 2020 Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to the NHS in Scotland and especially during Covid-19.
'I am so privileged to be honoured in this way,' she said. 'I had an amazing NHS team to work with and I am so proud of what we achieved in such unusual and challenging times. The honour is a recognition of what everyone achieved to help the people of Scotland.'
Mrs Young spent her career in the NHS and was Chief Executive of the Golden Jubilee Hospital for fourteen years. There she led the development of Scotland’s only heart transplant unit as well as a major centre for orthopaedic and ophthalmic surgery and one of the largest cardiac and thoracic centres in the UK. With only one month of retirement taken, Jill was asked by the Scottish Government to take oversight of NHS Scotland’s Patient Waiting Times. In March 2020 she was then asked by the First Minister to become Chief Executive of the NHS Louisa Jordan Hospital and to design and build a 1100-bed Covid hospital at the SEC in Glasgow which was successfully delivered within three weeks and although not used for Covid patients the hospital provided elective services to over 300,000 patients.
