Locals named in King's first Birthday Honours List

Leading names in politics, sport and public life in Dunbartonshire have been recognised in His Majesty the King's first birthday honours list.

The MSP for Dumbarton and deputy leader of the Scottish Labour Party, Jackie Baillie MSP, has received a Damehood in recognition of her political and public service.

She told the Daily Record newspaper she thought someone was “pulling her leg” after receiving a letter telling her she would be made a Dame and added she will accept her honour on behalf of the communities she serves.

One of Scotland's most famous footballing names, the former Rangers player and manager John Greig, has been made a CBE for services to football and the community.

Mr Greig, who lives in Lenzie, captained the club in their finest hour - victory in the European Cup Winners Cup final in Barcelona in 1972.

Mary Edmiston from Bearsden, Payment Services Operations Manager with the Student Loans Company has been awarded the MBE for services to education and charity, and Lawrence Honeysett from Helensburgh, head of financial scrutiny to the Committee Office in the House of Commons, has been awarded the MBE for services to
Parliament.

Journalist, broadcaster and author Sally Magnusson, who lives in Torrance, has been awarded the MBE for services to people with dementia and their carers.

Sally founded music website Playlist for Life, after discovering the benefit music had on her mother Mamie, who was living with a diagnosis of dementia.
