UN medals presented to Cumbernauld Reservists

Army Reserve soldiers from the Royal Engineers, who deployed to Cyprus as part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission there, have received their campaign medals from Dunbartonshire's Lord-Lieutenant.

Mrs Jill Young MBE, invested the soldiers from 124 Field Squadron Royal Engineers at a ceremony at the Army Reserve Centre in Cumbernauld, after they returned from their six month tour of duty on Operation TOSCA.

The Lord Lieutenant was delighted to also have the opportunity to present a non-official medal to the children of those who were awarded their medals.

A total of 24 Army Reservists deployed to Cyprus from 124 Squadron which is based in Cumbernauld and has detachments in Kirkwall, Kinloss and Leuchars.  Also present were the Commanding Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major of the parent Regiment, 71 Engineer Regiment, which had also deployed to Cyprus.

Operation TOSCA is the name given to the British contribution to the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, divided since the Turkish invasion in 1974.
