Anniversary of Clydebank blitz marked

Dunbartonshire's Lord-Lieutenant, other dignitaries and local people have gathered to mark the anniversary of the Clydebank blitz.

A service in Kilbowie St Andrew's Parish Church was followed by wreath-laying ceremonies at the town's Solidarity Plaza and Dalnottar Cemetery.

The town was targeted in Luftwaffe air raids between March 13 and March 15 in 1941.

More than 400 German bombers attacked the town because of its shipbuilding yards and munition production and storage facilities.

However many civilian buildings were hit and more than 1,000 people were killed.

The 85th anniversary of the attacks will be marked next year.
