Fundraising boost for Clydebank hospice

Raising money for a charity close to her heart has become something of a habit for 14 year-old Courtney Devenney from Drumry.

The St Peter of the Apostle pupil has raised thousands of pounds for the St Margaret’s Hospice in Clydebank in memory of her father Joe, who passed away at home in 2019 after using the Hospice’s services during his treatment for cancer.

Courtney walked the 100 mile-long West Highland Way, ziplined the Clyde, then organised a raffle which was supported by local businesses who donated prizes.

Her first effort raised £1000, her second doubled that amount and her third raised £3000.

Courtney handed over the cheque to the charity at a recent event, where she also received a goodwill message from the King, delivered by Dunbartonshire Deputy Lieutenant, Professor Elaine Boyd OBE.

Courtney’s mum, Kellyanne Devenney said, ‘it is wonderful watching her do this. It’s her way of remembering her dad and she won’t be stopping any time soon.’
