International Women's Day marked

International Women's Day has been marked in Dunbartonshire at an event in Clydebank.

The theme this year was ‘Give to Gain’ encouraging collaboration and action for women's rights.

In attendance at Solidarity Plaza was Deputy Lieutenant Elaine Ferguson, the Provost of West Dunbartonshire, elected members (parliamentary and council), NHS, Fire & Rescue, Police Scotland, Dumbarton & District Women's Aid, Moments of Freedom and WASPI.

The flag raising was followed by refreshments in the Town Hall.

The Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Jill Young MBE, attended an International Women’s Day event at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow.

She was the guest speaker and delivered a presentation entitled “NHS to Lord-Lieutenant a personal journey.”

Mrs Young retired from the NHS as chief executive of The Golden Jubilee Foundation - a unique ‘flagship’ NHS board for Scotland comprising the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, a four star conference hotel, a research institute, and the National Innovation Centre.

In March 2020 she was asked on behalf of the First Minister of Scotland to design, build and run Scotland’s Covid Hospital, NHS Louisa Jordan. The commission was delivered in under three weeks providing a 1100 bed covid hospital with full operational functionality. Jill was then asked to lead Scotland’s COVID Testing Programme which saw testing capacity go from 250 per day to 40,000 per day including mobile units and new Laboratory capacity.

In 2020, Jill was appointed Lord-Lieutenant and awarded the MBE in Her Majesty The Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her services to the NHS.
