Rainbow Flag raised to mark LGBT+ History Month

The annual flag raising ceremony to mark LGBT+ History Month took place in Clydebank on February 3rd.

West Dunbartonshire's Provost Douglas McAllister led elected members, dignitaries and local residents in the ceremony at Solidarity Plaza in the town.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Lieutenant Sandie Scott.

Provost McAllister said a few words of welcome and discussed the theme of this year’s LGBT+ History month, Medicine – #UnderTheScope. 

Provost McAllister said: "This ceremony, which has taken place in West Dunbartonshire since 2008, reaffirms our commitment to equality and human rights in an inclusive environment for everyone who lives and works in our community.

"We celebrate our area as a place where people can live the life they choose without fear of discrimination.

"And we recognise the struggles of millions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people around the world who continue to face persecution - and in many countries, prosecution - simply for being true to themselves."
