Lieutenancy remembers Dunkirk evacuation

The remarkable operation to evacuate thousands of soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk in May and June 1940, has been remembered in a wreath laying ceremony at the Vale of Leven War Memorial in Alexandria. The event was organised by the Vale of Leven Remembrance Day Association and attendees included Dame Jackie Baillie MSP, Provost Douglas McAllister of West Dunbartonshire Council and Martin Docherty-Hughes MP. The Dunbartonshire Lieutenancy's Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Jim Rodgers DL, laid a wreath on behalf of the Lord-Lieutenant. Operation Dynamo, as it was called, saw a fleet of civilian vessels travel across the English Channel to rescue stranded soldiers from the beach in the face of the German advance.
