Dunbartonshire marks Armed Forces Day

Hundreds of serving military personnel, Reservists, cadets and veterans have taken part in Dunbartonshire’s annual Armed Forces Day parade.

View from the march.

The route of the march, through Dumbarton town centre, was lined by members of the public.

The parade was led by the Balaklava pipe band to the West Dunbartonshire Council offices on Church Street in the town.

There, the salute was taken by Mrs Jill Young MBE, Dunbartonshire’s Lord-Lieutenant.

Dignitaries watch the parade.

The parade was followed by a church service led by Reverend Steven Blakey, the staff chaplain for Scotland.

The Lord-Lieutenant takes the salute.

Mrs Young said, ‘I am honoured to commemorate Armed Forces Day which provides us with the opportunity to show our support for those who serve in His Majesty’s Armed Forces and to those who have served in previous generations.

Deputy Lieutenant Garry McLeod MBE discusses the weather with former DL, Colonel Bobby Steele TD.

We, as a nation, continue to be indebted to those who today risk their lives in many places around the world and to the Veterans whose service we will never forget and always honour.

I believe that the United Kingdom has the finest armed forces in the world who represent the very best that this country stands for. This is the day when the rest of us can show our patriotic support for their outstanding contribution to this country.'
