Lord Lieutenants and their deputies from across central Scotland visited the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Army Cadet Force on their annual camp at Barry Buddon near Dundee.

Dunbartonshire DL Elaine Ferguson joined the cadets and adult volunteers and learned at first hand the skills that they were being taught and saw the fun they were having.
She visited them on the rifle ranges and admired their skills, spoke with cadets who were about to start 24 hours of fieldcraft out on the ground, deal with whatever they encounter and survive on ration packs, which they assured visitors were good and even come with sweets.

Elaine also got to watched others compete at games and undertake academic work and was reminded that cadets may be dressed in army clothing but they are being taught life skills, teamwork, leadership, resilience and responsibility to name but a few.
Not only do cadets leave with these life skills and cadet qualifications, they can also work towards Duke of Edinburgh Awards and SQAs.
Elaine said, 'what a great opportunity this was to witness first hand the fun they were all having whilst learning life skills to make them assets to their communities.'
